HISTORICAL MILESTONES

✓ In 2010, the Association of Independent Record Companies South Africa
(AIRCO) initiated a consultative process with the public broadcaster (SABC) to
license its member’s music video for use and in return SABC pays AIRCO
audiovisual royalties for the rightsholders;


✓ In 2011, the SABC entered and signed a historic agreement with AIRCO to
create AIRCO AUDIOVISUAL WING to license, collect and distribute
audiovisual royalties;


✓ In 2014, AIRCO created AIRCO DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH TRUST to,
amongst others, incubate the development of AIRCO AUDIOVISUAL WING,
starting as a department to distribute audiovisual royalties into a fully fledged
company;

✓ Since, 2012 AIRCO AUDIOVISUAL WING has successfully distributed
audiovisual royalties to rightsholders for the following circles (2010, 2011, 2012,
2013, 2014 and 2015);


✓ Since 2016, the AIRCO TRUST used a large portion of the declared
undistributable funds to grow the business of AIRCO and its programmes,
invest in properties, now serving as home and indies hub and finally created a
burial scheme for independent music role-players to be buried with dignity; and


✓ The rapidly changes in the music industry ecosystem necessitated the birth of
the Southern Africa Audiovisual Company (SAAV) to become a leading,
reputable and reliable representative of copyrights owners of cinematograph films.

OUR CORE FUNCTION

Our core function is to advocate for the use of local music
content in South Africa and the rest of the SADC countries,
ensure the production of high quality broadcast music
videos grant licenses to the users to play our rightsholders
music videos collect music video/ audiovisual royalties and
distribute music video royalties to rightsholders or owners
of the copyrights

collective management organization in the SADC region.

The vision of the Southern Africa Audiovisual Company

(SAAV) is to become a leading collective management

organization of audiovisual royalties to bolster the

economic empowerment for rightsholders of

cinematograph films (music videos) in SADC countries.

CORE

The owners of copyright in cinematograph films (in
case, music videos) have certain exclusive rights
in relation to that material, including the rights to
reproduce music videos in any manner or form
